Thallus verruculose to verrucose, yellowish grey to greenish white, epruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus whitish grey. Apothecia sessile, 0.6–1.5 mm diam.; disc orange-brown to reddish orange, slightly greyish-pruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, smooth, entire to verruculose. Cortex hyaline, distinct, basally gelatinous, inspersed with small crystals, 10–20 µm thick laterally and 30–45 µm thick basally. Amphithecium with large crystals insoluble in KOH (pulicaris-type). Parathecium hyaline, with numerous small crystals insoluble in KOH, 10–20 µm thick. Epihymenium red-brown, c. 10–15 µm thick, with numerous small crystals (chlarotera-type); pigmentation and crystals soluble in KOH. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 11.0–14.5 × 5.5–7.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellowish, C–, Pd+ yellowish; containing usnic acid (major), atranorin (minor), chloroatranorin (minor) and two unknown fatty acids. | ||
In Australia this species is known only from the type locality in south-eastern Qld where it grows on exposed, siliceous rocks in heath vegetation. Also in Papua New Guinea. | ||
